The Vocational Education and Training (VET) section under the Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) and Vocational Training subsector held a pivotal TVET Working Group meeting, which successfully set the stage for the highly anticipated TVET Employability Summit. This event, slated for December 4th and 5th 2024 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), aims to bolster the visibility and impact of Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) across Nairobi County.
At the meeting, Chief Officer Ahmed Abdi emphasized the strategic importance of the upcoming summit in aligning vocational training with the needs of the modern labor market. “The TVET Employability Summit represents a significant step in our mission to empower the youth of Nairobi through practical, skills-based education. This summit is not just an event; it is a movement towards creating sustainable livelihoods for our young people,” remarked Mr. Abdi.
Mr. Abdi further elaborated on the role of VTCs in the county’s broader economic development strategy. “Our Vocational Training Centres are the backbone of Nairobi’s skilled labor force. By enhancing their visibility and aligning them with industry needs, we are investing in the future of our county. “We anticipate this summit will open new doors for our youth, equipping them with skills that are directly aligned with market demands,” he added.
The Workgroup members reviewed the Concept Note, Program, Budget, for the summit and engaged in detailed discussions on strategies for fundraising. The Chief Officer urged all stakeholders to engage in fundraising efforts, emphasizing the crucial role of financial support in ensuring the summit’s success.
In his remarks, the Deputy Director for Vocational Education Training, Mr. Mititi, stressed the need for a unified approach to ensure the summit’s objectives are met. “This summit is about collaboration. It is about bringing together the best minds in education, industry, and government to create pathways for our youth. We must all work together to make this a landmark event for vocational training in Nairobi,” he stated.
The TVET Employability Summit is expected to significantly enhance the employability of youth across the county by aligning vocational training with the demands of the modern labor market. The meeting underscored the importance of collaborative efforts among stakeholders to ensure the success of the event.
The summit is poised to be a landmark occasion, driving forward the agenda of vocational training in Nairobi and positioning the county as a leader in youth employability. The Chief Officer and his team are committed to ensuring that this event not only raises awareness of the importance of vocational training but also delivers tangible outcomes that will benefit Nairobi’s youth for years to come.
The meeting, was graced by the Director of Partnership and Donor Coordination, Mr. Kepha Omanga, was chaired by Mr. Kevin Osido of the County Governance Watch. It brought together all members of the Workgroup, reflecting the collaborative spirit crucial to the summit’s success.
