Tales of informality to formality continue to unfold as the city undergoes major transformation within the informal settlement areas

The Second Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project (KISIP 2) moved a step further in its quest to improve lives and livelihoods in the urban informal settlements, following the handing over of six (6No.) sites for the installation and construction of the High Mast Floodlights under the small works, contract

The small works will include construction and installation of 6 No., 30 meter grid powered high mast flood lights in Spring valley/Matopeni, Huruma fire Victims,Pumwani -Majengo, Ex Grogon Mathare and City Carton settlements in Nairobi City County.

The specific locations were jointly identified with the communities through public participation with an aim of reducing crime and violence incidents while promoting socio-economic activities within the settlement.

Speaking during the exercise, Nairobi County KISIP 2 coordinator Ms. Jecinta Charles called upon the community members to accord the contractor the necessary support to make the implementation process easy.
Informal 1On behalf of the employer- Nairobi City County Government under the leadership of H. E. Sakaja Arthur Johnson, she acknowledged the collaboration between all the stakeholders in making this initiative possible so as to ensure that the communities continue to enjoy dignified living.

In his remarks, the project contractor Mr. Hiram Wangui on behalf of Ke Nako investments Limited committed to ensuring that the workmanship and method of installation would conform to the best standard practice and satisfaction of the supervisors.

Installation of the high mast flood lights is part of the improvement works earmarked for execution in the overall KISIP 2 improvement project funded by the world bank through the State Department of Housing and Urban Development.

From the date of commencement, the contractor has 6 months to deliver completed works

Present in every site were Settlement Executive and Grievance Redress Committee Members County Project Coordination Team (CPCT) and the supervising consultant; “Wanjohi Mutonyi Consult Ltd”
