Social Services Subsector presents Final Community Policy Draft.

NAIROBI: 13th August 2024

County Executive for Talent Skills Development and Care Mr. Brian Mulama yesterday joined the Technical Working Group(TWG) on the Development of the Nairobi City County Community Development Policy on a one-day workshop to address input by stakeholders and the impact on the development process.

The County Executive was taken through the policy by the team as they finalized in preparation to presentation at the cabinet he said that this is a remarkable achievement in our journey toward sustainable development and community empowerment. “The finalization of the Nairobi City County Community Development Policy validates our commitment to the people of Nairobi, a roadmap for our future, and an attestation to our vision of an inclusive, vibrant, and resilient City.”

Mr. Mulama said, one of the core tenets of this policy is inclusivity. “We recognize that every voice matters and that community development cannot be successful without the active involvement of our citizens. Through participatory planning and implementation, the County will ensure that our development initiatives are grounded in the realities of our neighborhoods and reflect the aspirations of our people.”
Compolicy 1The County Executive said that the development of the policy is a vital step for Nairobi, we face challenges that require innovative solutions and collaborative efforts. This policy is designed to address those challenges head-on as it aims to foster community participation, enhance service delivery, and promote sustainable development that benefits every resident regardless of their background or circumstances.”

He noted that the policy emphasizes on the importance of partnerships. “We will collaborate with local organizations, private sector actors, and international partners to leverage resources and expertise. Together, we can create programs that empower our youth, uplift our marginalized communities, and promote economic growth.”

He further said that as a County we also understand that sustainable development requires a focus on environmental stewardship. “This policy incorporates strategies for climate resilience and the promotion of green practices. By investing in sustainable infrastructure and protecting our natural resources, we will create a healthier and more sustainable Nairobi for future generations.”

He urged the team members, leaders, and stakeholders to engage actively in the process. He said their involvement will be crucial in ensuring that our initiatives are effective and responsive to the needs of our communities. He said that he will ensure adequate budgets for policy development and implementation.

The policy development and workshop is sponsored by KARA and is expected to be presented the cabinet for approval in a month’s time.

Present at the Workshop Were Director Shem Ombura, Deputy Directors Robert Muema and Godfrey Ochele, Assistant Directors Christine Ongoro, Fredrick Ogutu, Rosemary Kibathi, legal team Evans Mogire and Terry Njeru among others.
