Nairobi’s Green Nairobi Sector Collaborates with GEOHealth Hub to Enhance Air Quality Management

Nairobi County Executive Committee Member in charge of Green Nairobi hosted Global Environmental and Occupational Health (GEOHealth) Hub for Eastern Africa from University of Nairobi who briefed him on the activities of GEOHealth.

The meeting also deliberated on areas of key interest for Nairobi City County such as support in Air Quality training and management and further synergies with Green Nairobi programs as well as linking GEOHealth to communities and stakeholders for outreach programs.

Mr. Auma commended GEOHealth for their work on improving air quality and health adding that good health and wellbeing of Nairobi residents as Green Nairobi Sector’s core mandate.

“I also urge you to provide air quality staff with comprehensive training to ensure the team is able to self-implement air quality projects” said Mr. Auma.
Geohealthhub 1GEOHealth Hub for Eastern Africa is a research and capacity building project being undertaken in Nairobi, Addis Ababa and Kampala Cities through funding the NIH (USA)

According to Prof. Nicholas Oguge, Principal Investigator and Professor of Environment Policy, University of Nairobi, through support from the Clean Air Fund, GEOHealth has received funding to strengthen capacity of the Nairobi City County Government in Air Quality Monitoring through Co-location and Calibration of Low-Cost Sensors project.

Present in the meeting was the visiting Mombasa County Executive Committee Member for Water, Natural Resources and Climate Change Resilience Ms. Emmily Achieng.

Also in attendance were; County Chief Officer Environment Mr. Hibrahim Otieno, Deputy Director Climate Change and Air Quality Monitoring Mr. Maurice Kavai and Ass. Director Climate Change and Air Quality Monitoring Ms. Grace Ojiayo.
