Nairobi City County Deputy Governor H.E Njoroge Muchiri accompanied by County Executive Committee Member in charge of Inclusivity, Public participation and Customer Service Ms. Rosemary Kariuki joined the Cabinet Secretary Tourism and Wildlife Hon. Rebecca Miano, PS Tourism John Ololtuaa and stakeholders in the dual launch of the Tourism Fund’s 5th Cycle Strategic Plan covering the 2024 to 2029 period, alongside the unveiling of the Tourism Training Revolving Fund (TTRF) at the Bomas of Kenya.
The Deputy Governor stated that Nairobi being the capital City serves as a gateway to the wonders of East Africa. He said, “The city is not merely a destination but a hub connecting travelers to the awe-inspiring landscapes of Kenya and the region. The commitment of the Kenyan government, County government and regional partners to sustainable tourism is evident in initiatives aimed at preserving the natural treasures and promoting responsible travel.”
“Tourism is a key driver of Kenya’s Economy. The launch aims to enhance skills, empower professionals and elevate service quality across the tourism sector. By investing in people, this will build a stronger, more resilient Tourism industry for the future. As a city we have a lot to show including being one of the only cities with a national park. “He further stated.
The Cabinet Secretary said, “This Strategic Plan is advisedly curated to position tourism as a key driver of sustainable growth & development in Kenya. I consider this a vitally important milestone for a sector whose capacity to expand and yield more for our economy is nothing but boundless.”
The County Executive Ms. Rosemary Kariuki reiterated the Deputy Governor’s remarks stating that Nairobi is at the forefront of the region’s efforts to ensure that the benefits of tourism are shared equitably, leaving a positive impact on both the environment and local communities.
Tourism fund is a body corporate established under the Tourism Act 2011 which came into operation on 1st September, 2012 vide special issue Kenyan Gazette. It provides financial support for developing tourism products and services.
