County Chief Officer for Economic Planning, John Lintari, has urged economic planning officers to work together to ensure the sub-sector realizes its vision and direction, a department that is very critical to the county.
Mr. Lintari made these remarks during a familiarization meeting with Economic Planning Officers at the ongoing workshop where the County Officers are drafting the Annual Development Plan (ADP) for 2025/26, which will form the basis of the next financial year’s budget.
In his address, Mr. Lintari emphasized the importance of collaboration and shared his appreciation for the complexity and significance of his role within the government sector. “In the few years of service with Nairobi County, I’ve come to appreciate the complexity and importance of this role. Each day offers new insights and challenges, and this experience has been a continuous learning curve,” he said.
Mr. Lintari acknowledged the challenges of an understaffed department but expressed confidence in the team’s ability to evolve and grow. “This transformation will underscore our collective commitment to realizing a coherent vision for our department, which I believe is central to the county’s operations,” he added.
Highlighting the role of the Economic Planning department in the county’s strategic planning and execution, Mr. Lintari noted the importance of the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP). “The CIDP is a cornerstone of our work, guiding the county’s initiatives across all sectors. Our planning and coordination ensure that Nairobi County can deliver on its promises and meet its objectives,” he stated.
Mr. Lintari also emphasized the importance of teamwork and collective effort in fulfilling the H.E Governor Sakaja Johnson’s vision for Nairobi. “I believe in the power of teamwork. Our department’s success will significantly contribute to the county’s development and H.E. the Governor’s manifesto. I am eager to work with this dedicated team to ensure we deliver on our promises and make Nairobi County a model of excellence,” he said.
County Director for Economic Planning, Geoffrey Sianga, welcomed the new Chief and outlined the department’s functions, which include coordinating development planning, managing county statistics, and tracking the implementation of county plans. “When we do this plan, we must ensure it is implemented. Planning and monitoring and evaluation go hand in hand. There is a new regulation, the Public Investment Management Regulation of 2022, that requires counties to start implementation from this financial year, and our department is at the heart of this regulation,” Mr. Sianga explained.
Present at the meeting were Deputy Director for Economic Planning, Grace Chabari, Principal Economist, Petronilla Kang’ara, Principal Fiscal Analyst, Musa Senator, and other officers from the Economic Planning Department.
