Led by the Deputy Director Vocational Training Mr. Leonard Mititi, the section, held a stakeholders forum at Mathare Vocational Training Center that brought together different stakeholders in the field of Vocational Education and Training.
The stakeholders’ forum focused on Nairobi County’s Vocational Training Centers, participants gathered to discuss the county’s initiatives, challenges faced, and potential improvements for the Vocational Training sector. The forum highlighted several key aspects. Current Initiatives by Nairobi County.
Nairobi County has been actively investing in Vocational Training Centers to enhance skills development and employment opportunities for youth, who are the largest population. Governor Sakaja has set aside a substantial amount for scholarships for needy youth joining our training institutions. The county government has established Vocational Training Centers across the different Sub-counties to provide accessible training in various trades.
Mr. Mititi said “These training centers offer courses ranging from motor vehicle mechanics and construction to hospitality and ICT, catering to diverse vocational interests. The county has partnered with industry stakeholders to align training programs with market demands, ensuring that graduates possess relevant skills for immediate employment or entrepreneurship ventures.
“This collaboration has led to the integration of practical internships and apprenticeships within the curriculum, enhancing students’ readiness for the job market. We have managed to enroll Persons Living with disabilities (PWDS) spread across 8 Vocational Training Centers. We have also received volunteer sign language interpreters who are helping in our centers. “Said Mititi.
He said the institutions, just like any other face challenges, but this stakeholders’ forum has proposed actionable strategies to address these challenges and elevate Nairobi County’s vocational training centers. The County will continue to improve by implementing these strategies, Nairobi County’s vocational training institutes can evolve into dynamic hubs of skill development, meeting the demands of the job market and empowering individuals with practical expertise for meaningful careers.”
The stakeholders’ forum concluded with a commitment to ongoing collaboration and innovation, paving the way for a robust vocational education ecosystem in the county.
