Nairobi County Pursues High-Value Manufacturing for Model Industrial Parks and Centers of Excellence

Nairobi: Saturday, May 18th, 2024

Nairobi City County through the Business and Hustler Opportunities Sector seeks high-value added manufacturing that is knowledge-intensive, research and development-oriented, and market-led for establishing Model Industrial Parks and Centers of Excellence within the common user facilities through the County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIP).

Speaking at a collaboration meeting on the improvement of the project document and take up implementation of some of the components that will form the basis for the success of the CAIP in terms of the legal framework at the Strathmore University School of Business, Ms. Elizabeth Njau, the Director of Trade and Industry, said the CAIP project is part of Governor Sakaja’s promise to his electorate of making Nairobi a City of Order, Dignity, Hope, and Opportunity for All through job creation in an organized manner and a conducive environment.

“Nairobi chose this line of project because we wanted our people to take advantage of the Bottom-Up Model especially on affordable housing that promises a ready market for standardized products from the park,” Ms. Njau said, “and it is the reason we are seeking help from project-related professionals in the implementation to ensure the project is sustainable.”

Mr. Cavin Otieno, the Grants Manager at Strathmore University, asserted the institution’s commitment to drafting the concept paper and said their general involvement in the CAIP is their way of giving back to society.

“We will also aid in sourcing for partners who are passionate about entrepreneurship,” Mr. Otieno said, “as long as there is government commitment. It is our wish to look back and give a measure of our success in this project.”

Present also was; Dr. Mirriam Omollo and Mr. Fredrick Nzioki (Strathmore University),Mr. James Kanyi, Quantity Surveyor, Engineer Samuel Njoroge Director Mechanical Engineering and Ms. Sally Raga, Assistant Director Trade and Industry (Nairobi County)
