Nairobi, 23rd April 2024
Nairobi City County in collaboration with the Oslo Centre and other various stakeholders held a two day Multi Stakeholder Forum (MSF) on Open Government Partnership, OGP. The MSF is a mandatory process for each participating Government’s successful participation in the OGP process.
The Open Government Partnership (OGP) is a multilateral initiative that aims to secure concrete commitment from governments to promote transparency, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new technologies to strengthen governance. The county joined the OGP Local initiative in 2020.
County Executive for Inclusivity, Public participation and customer service Dr. Anastasia Nyalita speaking at the Forum emphasized on the county’s commitment to openness and transparency in order to strengthen the platform for good governance, citizen engagement and inclusive processes.
Said Dr. Nyalita “Public participation and Citizen Engagement is at the heart of H.E. the Governors Manifesto so the county is fully committed to fulfilling its mandate in line with the principles of the OGP which will certainly accelerate the move from promise to action. At the end of this Programme I desire that the provision of services, inclusion and feedback for the Nairobi citizens shall tremendously improve and the residents shall realize the fruits of this noble program.”
Nairobi County Government considers civil society organizations and other Non-state actors essential partners in collaborating to actively support and engage in initiatives related to civic education, democratic processes, good Governance, and essential services hence the need to fully commit to its participation in the OGP Local initiative.
The county Government is set to create an action plan aligned with the administration’s priorities set to be launched in August 2024 and implemented by end of 2027.
