Nairobi County Announces Leadership Transition in Revenue Administration and Smart Nairobi Sub-Sectors

Outgoing County Chief Officer for Revenue Administration, Mr. Wilson Gakuya, handed over the docket to the incoming County Chief Officer for Revenue Administration and Ag. Chief Officer for ICT Infrastructure, Mr. Tiras Njoroge.

Mr. Njoroge, the outgoing County Chief Officer for Smart Nairobi, will now take over Revenue Administration, while Mr. Gakuya transitions to lead the Smart Nairobi Sub-Sector.

Reflecting on his tenure, Mr. Gakuya shared, “It has been a great pleasure to work at the County Treasury, Revenue Administration, and to steer it for more than a year and a half, propelling the County Own Source Revenue from Kshs 8.9B to 12.8B. I extend my gratitude to the county treasury for their support and to H.E. Governor Sakaja Johnson for the opportunity to serve Nairobians. I also thank the County Executive for Finance and Economic Planning, Charles Kerich, for his mentorship. We continue to corporate from a different level. As I take on my new responsibilities at Smart Nairobi, I commit to advancing the continuous automation of revenue processes, a key pillar of revenue mobilization, to deliver seamless and comprehensive revenue automation for revenue enhancement.”

Mr. Njoroge expressed his gratitude to H.E. Governor Sakaja Johnson for the opportunity to serve as County Chief Officer for Revenue Administration. “This docket is aimed at supporting His Excellency in achieving his manifesto to the people of Nairobi and improving their livelihoods. In the financial year 23/24, as Chief Officer for Smart Nairobi, we supported revenue mobilization through transformative revenue sources digitization and achieved the highest revenue ever recorded. In 2024/25, my office will lead the revenue team to introduce far-reaching revenue administration reforms, use analytic methods to assess every revenue stream’s targets and performance, and employ emerging technology to address revenue mobilization to achieve the 20.6B revenue target.”

The leadership transition follows recent changes made by Nairobi City County Governor H.E. Sakaja Johnson.
