Nairobi City County to fast-track the construction and completion of the five modern markets in Karen, Jujo in Mihang’o, Kahawa West,Mutuini and Riruta as a fulfillment of Governor Sakaja A Johnson’s promise to deliver 20 markets to Nairobi residents within five years.
Embarking on a two-day familiarization tour of the Markets Sub-Sector’s ongoing projects in different parts of the county, starting with Karen, Mutuini, and Karandini, the Executive Member for the Business and Hustler Opportunities Sector, Dr. Anastasia Nyalita, accompanied by the Markets and Trade Sub-Sector Chief Officer, Ms. Jane Wangui, urged everyone to adopt a result-oriented approach to ensure the markets are ready as envisioned in Sakaja’s manifesto of making Nairobi a City of Order, Hope, Dignity, and Opportunities for All.
“I promise to ensure the service roads leading to the markets and drainages, especially in Karandini market, are functional to make it more appealing and competitive and attract more businesses to the facility,” said Nyalita.
She further emphasized the need to work with the relevant departments to sensitize market traders on the digital rates payment procedures to avoid spending long hours visiting the county headquarters to carry out procedures they can easily carry out using their mobile phones.
The team will tour Kahawa West, Kangundo Road, and Jujo Markets on the second day.
Also present at the various sites were: The Karen Ward Member of County Assembly, Hon. Antony Maragu, Ms. Joyce Kyengo, the Markets Director, Ms. Serah Gichamba, the Deputy Director Markets, Mr. Joshua Otieno, Markets Manager, and other markets officials.
