Nairobi City today finished strong among 10 Counties unveiled as being responsive in the just concluded assessment for Green Financing. At a national Ceremony presided over by the PS National Treasury Dr. Chris Kiptoo, Nairobi County was awarded Bbb credit rating having satisfied the criteria in a year-long assessment conducted by International Rating Agency Augustine & Co. The assessment process was led by the Office of the Governor.
Speaking at the event, County Executive Committee Member for Finance & Economic Affairs Charles Kerich, expressed the profound commitment of the Nairobi County Government in exploring alternative financing solutions that position the County in a position of offering Environmental Stewardship as an emblem of Sustainable Development. He reiterated Governor Sakaja’s steadfast determination to deliver a City of Order, Dignity, Hope and Opportunity.
Director for Donor Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement Mr. Kefa Omanga expressed his gratitude to all the sectors of the County Government for their support and cooperation that yielded positive rating in fiscal & economic, credit rating, Green Asset and Green Financing Assessment. He indicated the readiness of the County Government to navigate the next steps to the Capital Market.
The County delegation included Dr Gachie (Governor’s Advisor on Finance & Strategy), CCO-ICT, John Lintari and Deputy Director Donor Coordination- Molly Achieng.
The event was graced by Governors, Deputy Governors and representatives from the 10 Counties that made it to the shortlist. Others included Leigh Stubblefield, UK Deputy High Commissioner and Development Director to Kenya, Tamara Cook, CEO, FSD Kenya, Senior Officers -National Treasury & Planning, Nairobi Securities Exchange, Capital Markets Authority, FSD-Kenya, PWC and ADA Consortium among others.
