Nairobi City is set to benefit from accelerated predictive analytics for preparedness against flood and water- borne diseases.
“Several weeks ago, the Nairobi City County Government team led by Deputy Governor, Muchiri Njoroge hosted a team from Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Deloitte Tohmatsu Venture Support who paid him a courtesy call to brief him on disaster management initiatives using different technologies. This project aims to solve social issues the county is facing.” Said Sande Oyolo, Chief Officer, Digital and Startups.
SORA Guardian, a Japanese Start up that specializes in High – res mapping and predictive weather analytics for flood Preparedness and mitigation will be tasked with building a system whereby future risks can be analyzed and data evaluated as well as prediction of future changes based on Climate change parameters.
“We will no longer react to disaster management and mitigating, but through the Proof-of-Concept collaboration we will be able to anticipate, manage and provide solutions that can be applied to mitigate different disasters that the County experiences. These include disaster management using drones, transformation of human security with drone and image analysis AI and Location AI platform for flood preparedness and data collection and efficiency. These solutions would help mitigate disasters in Nairobi.”
Said Jackton Mboya, Deputy Director, Disaster Risk Reduction, “The initiatives are all good and relevant for disaster management in our city, with some of them cutting across different emergencies. Nairobi County welcomes such initiatives that will guide in planning mitigation and prevention of loss of lives and livelihoods amongst Nairobi residents. Improve the lives of people. Such innovative technologies will bring solutions to emergencies that have bedeviled the city.”
Mr. Oyolo said that Nairobi County has in the past grappled with a number of natural disasters, which led to Nairobi Governor H.E Sakaja Johnson challenging the Disaster Management department to find mitigation solutions.
