Nairobi City County Welcomes 21 Pioneer Water Rescue Team Members After Intensive Mombasa Training

Nairobi, 4th August, 2024

Nairobi City County’s Disaster Management and Coordination received twenty-one (21) pioneer water rescue team members after a successful pass-out in Mombasa where they had undergone a four (4) week intensive training.

The training entailed; swimming and water rescue lessons, First Aid for water accident victims, life saving techniques (water rescue), Rescue boat operations and basic deep diving and rescue techniques. The role of the water rescue team will be to ensure safety for water users, respond to emergencies involving water accidents, especially floods, and whenever evacuation is needed. The team ensures water safety by educating members of the public on safe ways of handling water, especially in recreational areas with swimming pools and even those who live near water bodies. Lessons learnt during the intense 4-week program will come in handy whenever water-based disaster incidents occur in the city and its environs.” Said Bram Simiyu, County Chief Officer, Disaster Management and Coordination.

The group of twenty-one crew consists of five (5) firewomen and sixteen (16) firemen.
