In an effort to making achievable gains towards implementation of sustainable solid waste management Act of 2022, Nairobi City County in partnership with Danish Embassy and Kenya Alliance of Residents Association (KARA) provided assorted waste bags and bins to Ngei 2 Estate to support waste segregation at source pilot program.
County Assistant Director Environmental Monitoring Compliance and Enforcement Ms. Christine Kivuva said that Nairobi County and Danish Embassy are working together on several areas amongst them review of the existing County laws governing solid waste management which is one of the devolved functions in the constitution of Kenya 2010. She said the review will incorporate Extended Producer Responsibility, Material recovery facilities guidelines and will bring on board all actors in the waste management chain.
Other areas identified for collaboration are public education and awareness, social economic survey of water pickers in the final disposal site and support of the ongoing pilot projects of waste segregation in partnership with KARA.
