In a crucial move to strengthen Nairobi County’s child protection initiatives, Chief Officer Social Services Boniface Nyamu visited the Makadara Boys Center today. The visit aimed to acquaint the Chief Officer with child protection and safeguarding programs administered by the county which are designed to support rescued street connected children and other vulnerable youth across Nairobi.
These initiatives, managed by the County Children and Rehabilitation Services provide a safe, nurturing environment to safeguard and empower the children. By offering comprehensive support and opportunities for growth, the programs equip these young individuals with the tools needed for a better future.
Addressing the officials present the Chief Officer emphasized the critical need for sustained funding to meet the growing demands of child protection programs in the county. “The Social Services subsector provides services that are fundamental to our shared humanity, hence, it requires adequate funding,” stated the Chief Officer He further engaged with the rescued boys, staff members, and representatives from Children Fortress Africa (CFA), a partner organization that has been instrumental in supporting the county’s efforts to safeguard children and youth.
Representatives from Children Fortress Africa (CFA) expressed their commitment to continue partnering with the county to provide resources and expertise aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable children. Through this collaboration, the county demonstrates its dedication to uplifting vulnerable youth, particularly through initiatives like these at the Makadara Boys Center, where each child is supported to thrive. Through consistent funding, partnerships, and ongoing support, we aim to transform the lives of every child under our care. These young lives are the foundation of a stronger, brighter future for Nairobi.
Deputy Director Social Services, Robert Muema, reiterated the need of the programs, highlighting the county’s unwavering dedication to creating a safe and supportive environment for vulnerable children. “Today’s visit reinforces our commitment to protecting and uplifting vulnerable children in our community. At Makadara Boys Center, we see firsthand the impact of our child protection programs that offer hope, stability and new beginnings.
The Chief Officer was joined by Assistant Directors Rosemary Kibathi and Fredrick Ogutu, Chief Children Officer Jacinta Nanyama, including other Children Officers Rose Wairegi, Leah Ndungu, and Florence Wambui. Their presence affirmed the City County’s unified approach toward strengthening child welfare programs and ensuring that services reach all who need them.
