Dandora Greenlight Vocational Training Institute hosted an inspiring Career Fair and Student Orientation Day, aimed at guiding students to build a bright and self-reliant future. The theme of the day, “Skills Mkononi..Vijana tu Jitegemee,” captured the essence of empowerment, encouraging students to take their future into their own hands.
The Principal Dandora Green Light Carol Nguli addressed the students said, “As the world evolves into a digital ecosystem I urge you to embrace digital literacy. With the potential of remote jobs, creating a digital brand, and leveraging online skills to earn a living is paramount. Let us lay a focus on digital opportunities. We intend students to be shown how building a strong online presence could open doors to various remote work opportunities.”
Companionship of Works Organization (COWA) representatives reinforced the idea that education offers everyone equal opportunities. They encouraged students to use their skills to shape their future regardless of background. Students were motivated to think critically about their career paths, explore their strengths, and write their strategic plans. “The “6 Fs “fun, family, flexibility, finances, freedom, and focus, highlight as essential elements for a successful career journey.” Said the COWA representative.
The Oval Recruitment agency representative spoke about opportunities beyond Kenya’s borders. Their program, ‘Kazi Majuu’, provides pathways for students to work abroad, especially in the hospitality industry, and pursue further education. They emphasized the importance of learning foreign languages and the vast potential for international careers that these skills open up.
Deputy Principal Dandora Greenlight Francis Wambua urged the students to consider skills training that meet current labor demands. He said “There is need to be self-reliant and to set SMART goals. This Career Fair and Orientation Day is a stepping stone for realizing your potential, embrace the opportunities ahead, and carve paths with confidence.”
Networking and stress management were key topics at the fair. Students were encouraged to build valuable connections, emphasizing that “Your network is your net worth.” With around 20% of job seekers in Kenya securing opportunities through networking, a disciplined approach to setting both short-term and long-term goals were key highlights. Students learned practical ways to manage academic pressure, such as good sleep habits, mindfulness, and nature walks, turning stress into motivation for achieving their goals.
They welcomed the new students and provided them with an orientation to the institute’s departments and programs. It was also a moment of excitement and inspiration as the Dandora Greenlight VTC celebrated a significant milestone, being crowned the best vocational training institute in Kenya at this year’s Kenya Music Festivals. Certificates of participation were awarded to the students who showcased their talents in the Music Festivals at Eldoret earlier this year capping with the proud moment with the presentation of the trophy.
In attendance was Deputy Principal Mr. Fredrick Kataka coordinator for the career day and the Music Festivals.
