In a progressive step toward inclusive sports, the Nairobi City County Sports Department, in partnership with Rebuild Kenya, organized a coaching training session at Ngong Hills, hotel. The event aimed at equipping coaches with essential skills to integrate refugees into various sporting activities across Nairobi County.
The training, which welcomed both coaches and refugee participants, emphasized the role of sports as a unifying platform. In her opening remarks, Assistant Director Sports, Catherine Githinji, affirmed the county’s commitment to creating inclusive spaces within Nairobi’s sports sub sector.
“This training marks a critical moment in our efforts to use sports as a bridge for social cohesion and community development, we are honored to partner with Rebuild Kenya and all our attendees today, who are eager to support and empower refugees through shared sporting experiences, “she said.
The event facilitated discussions on best practices for creating welcoming environments, sensitizing coaches on understanding the unique needs of refugees, and fostering mutual respect.
The partnership with Rebuild Kenya is part of the City County’s broader mission to ensure sports programs are accessible to all residents, regardless of background or nationality. By building a network of supportive coaches and community members, Nairobi City County aims to strengthen social ties, boost mental and physical well-being, providing a sense of belonging for refugees within the city.
