The prestigious Miss Kenya UK beauty pageant, organized by Nairobi’s Talent, Skills Development, and Care sector, was held last night at the Nairobi National Theatre with 34 contestants from across the county participating. Showcasing their beauty and commitment to societal causes, Victoria Ndubo emerged as the winner. She, along with ten other contestants, will now represent Kenya at the Oxford beauty pageant in the UK, scheduled to take place from November 12th to 16th.
Ndubo’s performance, which included a powerful song dedicated to raising awareness about challenges facing local communities, earned her widespread admiration. Her advocacy for mental health and climate change has positioned her as a passionate champion of social causes.
Mr. Brian Mulama, the County Executive Committee Member for Talent, Skills Development, and Care, lauded the event’s impact on youth empowerment. “This first edition is just the beginning. We are committed to hosting more events like this to give our youth opportunities to shine, both locally and internationally. Our young people deserve platforms where their talents and voices can be recognized and celebrated,” he said, emphasizing the county’s unwavering dedication to nurturing the next generation of leaders, creatives, and change makers.
Mr. Oscar Igaida, Chief Officer for Talent, Youth, and Sports, highlighted the county’s continuous efforts in identifying and developing young talent through grassroots initiatives. “Through our talent search events across all sub-counties, we have been able to spot, nurture, and elevate talents from the ground up. This initiative has led to young people gaining certifications, training, and sponsorships, helping them grow into the professionals they aspire to be,” Igaida said. He added that the county is also focused on helping youth commercialize their talents, thus creating a sustainable ecosystem where they can build businesses and careers alongside their artistic endeavors.
Mr. Daniel Ngari, Director of Youth, Talent, and Sports, expressed pride in the collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Kenyan diaspora, which made the event possible. “Today’s beauty pageant is more than a competition; it’s a showcase of the incredible talent we have in our communities. For the ten selected, this stage will open doors to international opportunities like the Oxford modeling show. We are proud to be part of this journey, helping our youth achieve their dreams and ambitions,” Ngari remarked, further reinforcing the county’s commitment to creating a robust platform for talent.
With plans to expand talent development programs, young people across Nairobi are encouraged to participate in future initiatives, taking advantage of platforms like Miss Kenya UK to showcase their talents and make meaningful contributions to society. The Miss Kenya UK pageant is just one of the many avenues through which Nairobi’s young people can now pursue their dreams while also becoming ambassadors of social responsibility and leadership on a global stage.
The event’s success was supported by key figures, including talent sector officers Senior Administrator Irene Ndaga, Agrippina Nyera, Peter Oyugi, and Agnese Masarange.
