Statement on the Operations of Uhuru Park

Nairobi, Sunday, 13 October 2024

Uhuru Park is open and is fully operational despite recent rumours. Records from the park offices show a high volume of visitors of about 2,000 in the past two weekends.

The park was officially handed over to Nairobi City County, from the National Government, on 28th April 2024 and has remained opened other than the temporary closure caused by damages following recent protests witnessed across the city. During these protests, property in the park was vandalized, including the caravan, aeroplanes, sculptures, and toilets. After investigations by relevant authorities, the park was cleared and cleaned up with the doors reopening on 28th September 2024 and has remained fully accessible to the public.
Uhurupark 1Central Park, on the other hand, is still undergoing some works with the National government contractors expected to complete in December 2024.

We invite everyone to visit and enjoy the scenic beauty of the park, which offers breathtaking views of the Nairobi skyline, including Upper Hill and the Nairobi Expressway.

Visitors can explore the botanical trail, enjoy the revamped historical monuments, relax by the ponds and alcoves, and take advantage of the spacious seating areas.
Uhurupark 2The park is free, with visitors required to present their ID for security purposes. The park remains open to host events at a fee.
