Nairobi County Launches SMEs Climate Action Plan Toolkit for Tourism Sector, Aiming to Promote Sustainable Practices and Combat Climate Change

Nairobi City County Executive Committee Member in charge of Inclusivity, Public Participation and Customer Service Ms. Rosemary Kariuki, was a key guest in the official launch of Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) Climate Action Plan Tool kit, a groundbreaking resource tailored for the tourism industry.
Smesactionplan 1The toolkit is designed to help SMEs in the travel and tourism sector adopt sustainable practices to combat climate change. It is also designed to empower SMEs by providing them with practical tools and strategies to reduce their carbon footprint and enhance their operational efficiency.

The County Executive appreciated Sustainable Travel and Tourism Africa for developing a toolkit that aligns with the County’s commitment in promotion of a sustainable and resilient tourism industry. She said, “SMEs are very important in driving sustainable tourism therefore we need to share insights from industry leaders on the future of climate action as well as further collaborations with a view to support the adoption of the toolkit.”
Smesactionplan 3She further stated that the County is also in the process of developing policies that align with the global climate change agenda on tourism development in Nairobi.

The County Executive was accompanied by Ms. Susan Mukuhi Deputy Director Tourism and Ms. Maureen Kambui, Senior tourism Officer.
