Nairobi, 7th September, 2024
Nairobi County organized a sporting competition at the County Inspectorate Training School in Dagoretti. The event aimed to identify the best players from the new recruits, who would then join and strengthen the existing county teams as they prepare for the upcoming 11th edition of the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) Games.
The event featured 22 disciplines, including football, volleyball, handball, basketball, choir, and cultural dance among others. The recruits demonstrated their competitive edge by outperforming many of the existing county teams, showing the potential they bring to Nairobi’s sports sector.
Speaking at the event Deputy Director Sports Mr. Hari Mwahari said that this was a crucial day to evaluate and select the top players who will represent our county in various sports disciplines. “The selection process is a rigorous one, designed to ensure that we choose athletes who not only have the skills but also the mindset to excel at higher levels. We’re looking for those who can contribute positively to the team”
Assistant Director of Sports Catherine Githinji emphasized the importance of identifying fresh talent: “We are focusing on selecting new recruits who can strengthen our existing teams. These are young people with immense capacity, and this is an opportunity to tap into their potential and ensure that Nairobi County is well-represented at the KICOSCA Games.”
Deputy Director Hari Mwahari echoed his sentiments, adding, “I have no doubt that the recruits we’ve selected will form a strong team that will represent Nairobi County with pride and determination in the upcoming games.”
In addition to selecting the top athletes, the recruits were reminded of their broader responsibilities as members of the county inspectorate. They were urged to serve diligently in their new roles and uphold the values of integrity and dedication in their service to the county.
The competition was hailed as an ambitious succession plan where young athletes will gradually but graciously replace the older ones, with Nairobi County now looking forward to the KICOSCA Games, confident that the new recruits will strengthen the county’s representation in both sports and public service.
