As part of efforts put in place to enhance County Government’s response against Gender Based Violence (GBV), Nairobi City County officials underwent training on GBV response and shelter management, courtesy of Gender Violence Recovery Center (GVRC) in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
County Chief Officer for Gender and Inclusivity Ms. Maryam Dahir through a statement Said,” This training covers GBV case management, role of duty bearers and accountability in GBV prevention and response. Our aim is to equip you with skills that enables you to address and tackle GBV cases, challenge the status quo and drive real and lasting changes while igniting a revolution of safety and dignity for all.”
Ms. Jane Gichure, the County Director for Gender and Inclusivity stated that Nairobi is in the process of constructing a safe house for survivors of Gender Based Violence, emphasizing on the importance of working with the National government and Non state actors to make sure that the community is sensitized on matters of GBV.
“Our aim is to amplify the voices of survivors and raise awareness about the pervasive issue of GBV. Together we will break the silence, challenge societal norms and work towards a future where every individual can live free from the shadows of violence. At the county we will continue to invest in the prevention and also respond to cases of GBV” said Ms. Jane.
The Officials, drawn from different departments within the County were able to come up with an action plan that will see increased community sensitization against GBV, strengthening of GBV technical working group, support for survivors’ networks and Cascading the training to other Cadres of staff in the County.
