Nairobi City County Validates Migration Technical Working Group Work Plan

Nairobi, September 4, 2024

Nairobi City County today hosted a consultative meeting to validate the 2024-2026 work plan for the Nairobi City County Migration Technical Working Group (NCCMTWG). Held at Sarova Pan Afric, the event marked a significant step in enhancing localized migration management and ensuring that the county effectively addresses the needs of migrants and host communities.
Migrationtechgroup 1Acting County Secretary and Chief Officer for Social Services, Godfrey Akumali, emphasized the importance of this initiative during his address: “Today’s validation exercise is a crucial step in ensuring that the work plans are robust, responsive, and reflective of the realities on the ground. This is more than just a strategy; it is a pledge to uphold the dignity and rights of all individuals, regardless of where they come from.”

The meeting brought together approximately 45 participants, including representatives from the Nairobi City County government, the National Coordination Mechanism on Migration (NCM), International Organizations on Migration(IOM), civil society organizations, faith-based organizations, and other stakeholders. Discussions focused on reviewing and finalizing the work plan, with particular attention to budget estimates, resource mobilization strategies, and partnership opportunities.

The validated work plan will serve as the guiding document for the NCCMTWG as it implements migration management initiatives in Nairobi. Participants expressed their commitment to ensuring that Nairobi becomes a city where migrants are integrated and can thrive alongside the local population.
