Nairobi County kick off Citywide Clean-Up Initiative to Enhance Urban Cleanliness, Starting in Starehe

The County Executive Committee Member for Green Nairobi Ms. Maureen Njeri announced that the County will embark on a Citywide clean up exercise across all the Sub-Counties, starting with Starehe Sub-County clean up activity scheduled for 24th of this month.

The CECM said that the move is to ensure cleanliness is maintained in the City.
Citycleanup 2Ms. Njeri spoke yesterday when she chaired an introductory meeting alongside Environment Chief Officer Mr. Geoffrey Mosiria, bringing together Environment Sub Sector heads and the Sub-County Environment Officers to forge way forward towards achieving a clean and healthy environment for Nairobi residents.

The Green Nairobi Executive called for dedication and accountability of the environment officers in their respective areas of assignment, by ensuring that the right things are done at the right time.

” We need to start thinking holistically on how to revamp the environment docket and make it shine. Environment is the face of the city and every staff plays a vital role in ensuring that the City is clean and green.” She said.
Nrbrestore 5Ms. Njeri mentioned that going forward, the sub sector will give more focus on engaging and supporting the Community Based Organizations (CBOs) dealing with waste management. She also promised that all illegal waste collection points will be cleared, and the sites rehabilitated.

The CECM appreciated the far the environment Subsector has come from, and the achievements realized so far while at the same time noting that a lot of work needed to be done in terms of policy framework, legislations and operations which she expressed confidence that it will be achieved.

She cited the need to embrace partnerships in order to support the docket on the planned activities. Ms. Njeri revealed that soon the Subsector will have structured institutions which are going to help it achieve its mandate, thus transforming the city in a big way.

Mr. Mosiria thanked the environment team for a warm welcome and asked for maximum support and cooperation from all staff in ensuring the city is clean and green.

While welcoming the new sector heads, Director Environment Mr. John Paul Malawi assured them of maximum cooperation to ensure the Subsector delivers services required by the people of Nairobi.
