Nairobi, 14th August 2024
Nairobi County Chief Officer for Revenue Administration, Tiras Njoroge, chaired the weekly revenue administration meeting today at CBK Pension Towers, focusing on revenue matters and staff welfare.
During the meeting, Mr. Njoroge commended the team for achieving its highest revenue target in the last financial year. He emphasized the crucial role of revenue administration in the city’s development, stating, ” With all the upgrading of the City, all this is achievable and dependent on us creating the resources. The targets we have set are not unrealistic because the potential revenue is out there. Over the last decade, largely, the same team that collected Kshs 8.9 billion is more or so, the same team that collected Kshs 12.8 billion. The difference is within us, and we are up to this task.”
Mr. Njoroge encouraged the team to continue pushing the current revenue record higher by being creative and finding new solutions. He also highlighted the importance of reviewing existing methods and practices to ensure continuous improvement.
In addition, he reassured the team of his commitment to addressing staff welfare, emphasizing that he would be both a source of solutions and receptive to new ideas.
He further stressed the importance of gathering data to expand the county’s revenue base, ensuring that there is no shortfall in achieving or surpassing the county’s potential revenue.
Dr. John Ntoiti, Director for Revenue Administration and Acting CEO of Nairobi Revenue Authority, emphasized the need for collective effort to achieve the county’s revenue target of Kshs 20.06 Billion. He announced that reporting would soon shift from the current reporting on revenue streams to reporting on all revenue streams in each officer’s respective sub county.
Dr. Ntoiti also acknowledged the positive impact of H.E Governor Sakaja’s deliberate efforts to empower multisectoral sub-county teams, guided by sub-county administrators and equipped with vehicles to assist in revenue mobilization. These initiatives, among others, have contributed to the record-breaking revenue performance that Nairobi County has witnessed.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Director for Revenue Administration, Veronica Kaleche, and Heads of Revenue Streams and Sub County Finance Officers, among others.
