Nairobi County Executive Committee Member Mr. Ibrahim Auma, has today officially handed over the Green Nairobi Sector to Ms. Maureen Njeri, previously the County Executive Committee Member for Business and Hustler Opportunities, as he moves over to head the Mobility and Works Sector.
The change comes following the recent County Executive reshuffles made by H.E Governor Sakaja Johnson.
Ms. Njeri was briefed on the sector achievements, challenges and programmes currently being implemented.
Mr. Auma highlighted some of significant milestones the sector was able to achieve towards making the City cleaner and greener during his time. These include; digitization of reporting for seamless records management and communication, establishment of air quality reference stations to be strategically stationed in the City, formulation of Nairobi Water and Sewerage Services Strategy which will guide in the improvement of water and Sewerage Services for the people of Nairobi, onboarding of National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project and the Nairobi City County Agriculture Sector Coordination Mechanism bill which is in its final stages and meant to enable the county to better legislate and support farmers activities within Nairobi, amongst many other achievements.
” During my tenure in the sector, we have successfully given attention to the most valuable resource, that is human resource because they make things move. Despite the challenges, we maintained our commitment to keeping our environment clean and green. Our environmental monitoring, compliance and enforcement team was revamped and is more dedicated than ever. Mr. Auma said.
He commended the sector staff for their dedication and cooperation and urged them to extend the same to the incoming County Executive Member.
Ms. Maureen Njeri while appreciating the warm welcome from Green Nairobi team, said that she prides herself in the highly qualified staff in the sector, noting that everybody knows and understands their role well.
She pointed out the issue of solid waste management as the most critical and needed to be looked at keenly. “We need to find a way of negating and proactively handle challenges experienced in the solid Waste management.” She stated.
Present during the handing over were Chief Officers; Mr. Oscar Omoke (Water and Sanitation Services), Ms. Gladwell Cheruiyot (Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources) Mr. Hibrahim Otieno ( Outgoing CCO Environment), Directors Mr. John Paul Malawi (Environment), Ms. Mary Kibira ( Crops Development and Natural Resources),Mr. Mario Kainga( Water and Sanitation Services) and Deputy Directors Mr. Joseph Kinyanjui ( Crops Development), Titus Nyakundi (Livestock Production) and Pius Tanui ( Environment).
