Chief Officer for Youth, Talent, and Sports Oscar Igaida flagged off Nairobi County community cultural group, which will be traveling to Poland to showcase Kenya’s rich culture at a series of circuit folk festivals in Poland.
The group, a registered musical and dance entity based at Jericho Social Hall, was invited by the Polish community to participate in the circuit folk festivals, which will take place in various cities across Poland from 6th August to 3rd September 2024.
The Chief Officer Mr. Oscar Igaida, delivered an impassioned speech, drawing on his personal experiences growing up in Nairobi, specifically in Eastlands. He emphasized the importance of nurturing talent, which he noted is a cornerstone of the governor Sakaja’s manifesto.
“Growing up in Eastlands, I saw firsthand how talent, if given the right opportunities, can change lives,” Mr. Igaida said. “It is our commitment to ensure that every young person in Nairobi has the chance to develop their talents and use them to build a better future. That’s why we are launching exchange programs between Kenya and Europe. We expect a meeting with the French Ambassador next week, where this will be a key agenda.”
Mr. Igaida also highlighted the need for formalizing talent groups to enable them to access financial support from the county. We are currently holding Nairobi County talent search events across the city to identify talent in different areas, nurture and also encourage the youth to monetize their talents “I urge all talent groups to formulate budgets, present them to the county for inclusion, and formally register with the county. This formalization will allow us to provide the necessary financial support to help you succeed,” he added.
He concluded by encouraging the music and dance group to be Kenya’s brand ambassadors as they prepare to showcase our culture on an international stage. “As you fly out to Poland, remember that you are not just representing Nairobi County; you are representing Kenya. Be proud of where you come from and showcase the best of our country’s talent.”
The event was made possible through the dedicated efforts of key officials in the Youth, Talent, and Sports department.
