Nairobi Hosts Public Forum on Strategic Tourism Policy Draft to Boost Sustainability and Growth

Nairobi, 5th August 2024

Nairobi City County today held a Public Participation Forum on the Tourism Policy draft that aims to create a strategic framework for the governance, development, promotion, and sustainability of tourism in Nairobi.

The Policy also seeks to enhance tourism products, foster better relations with stakeholders for sustainable tourism and ensure that it aligns with the needs and expectations of both local and international tourists. This initiative is part of HE Governor Sakaja’s vision of making Nairobi a city of Order, Dignity, Hope, and Opportunities for all.
Tourism2Dr. Anastasia Nyalita County Executive Committee Member in charge of Inclusivity, Public participation and customer service where the tourism department is domiciled said, “I would like to thank you all for your participation. By fostering a dynamic and inclusive tourism sector our aim is to create job opportunities, economic growth, and community development while supporting local businesses, artisans, and entrepreneurs to ensure that the benefits of tourism are felt far and wide. Let’s be candid with the feedback and I encourage those who would like to give their submissions online to do so by Friday this week.”

The Deputy Director Tourism Ms. Susan Mukuhi said,”I wish to thank everyone for your continuous support in the development of this Tourism Policy. I was impressed by the public participation that took place on X space yesterday, Sunday 4th August 2024, where over 1500 participants were involved and gave their submission in regards to this draft. Your feedback, insights, and ideas are invaluable in shaping a tourism sector that truly reflects the aspirations of our people.”
Tourism3Mr. Patrick Angasa , Director Public Participation said, “I am  happy that public participation has taken a new course in the country with the citizens embracing civic education on key matters like bills via the digital spaces like the X space”. He noted that Public Participation is a national value that is captured amongst other values in article 10 of the Constitution.

Nairobi City County aims to foster consensus building, transparency, and accountability in shaping a robust Tourism Policy that reflects the aspirations and needs of its residents, businesses, and visitors alike. The Policy draft will be presented to Cabinet and later to the County Assembly for debate and approval before assenting and publishing it.
