County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Talent Skills Development and Care Rosemary Kariuki paid a courtesy call to the Commissioner of Refugee Services Mr. John Burugu.
The main objective of the meeting was to update the Commissioner on the process and progress made in development of the Nairobi City County Refugee Integration and Community Building Strategy (NCRICS); Pillars being services access, harmonious coexistence of refugees & host communities, and social-economic development.
The Commissioner appreciated the progress made and emphasized on the need for County Governments to develop their ‘Home Grown Solutions’ in supporting Refugees. He encouraged Nairobi County to work closely with the Department of Refugee Services in development of the Strategy.
The CECM shared briefly on activities and achievements by Nairobi City County through a partnership with International Rescue Committee (IRC) that has ensured relevant sectors have been sensitized on Refugee Issues.
The Department for Youth Affairs later held a two-day validation Forum on the Nairobi City County Refugee Integration Strategy at the One Stop Youth Centre ahead of the World Refugees Day to be celebrated on 20th June. The forum aimed at ensuring views of the stakeholders were incorporated in the Strategy.
In attendance were Allan Mukuki Consultant, Deputy Directors Dr. Esther Kimani, Wainaina Muiruri, Susan Kimani Assistant Director Youth Affair and Team from Give Directly(Partner) who supported the Forums.
