Nairobi County Chief Officer in charge of City Culture, Arts and Tourism, Clement Rapudo today represented County Executive for Inclusivity, Public Participation and Customer Service, Dr. Anastasia Nyalita during the Graduation of Nairobi City County Hospitality managers and employees at the Boma international hospitality college.
Speaking at the event the Chief Officer said, “The Nairobi City County Governor, HE Governor Sakaja, recognizes tourism and culture as fundamental pillars of his
manifesto. Consequently, he has highlighted “The Vibe of the City” as one of his top ten flagship programs. This concept encompasses the vibrancy and energy of Nairobi, characterized by its rich cultural heritage, diverse entertainment options, thriving arts scene, and welcoming atmosphere. It aims to create an inclusive and dynamic environment that attracts both residents and visitors, enhancing the overall experience of the city.”
He went on to say that the tourism and hospitality industry is a vibrant, dynamic, and ever-evolving field that thrives on the creation of experiences, the forging of connections, and the delivery of exceptional service. “As graduates, you now hold the keys to shaping the future of this industry, driving it towards new heights of excellence and innovation. In recent years, the tourism and hospitality industry has faced unprecedented challenges. The global pandemic has reshaped our world, altering how we travel, connect, and interact. However, with every challenge comes an opportunity for growth and reinvention.”
Mr. Rapudo further stated that Nairobi City County had made some efforts towards creating a robust industry including The Nairobi Festival, Battle of The Choirs, Easter Festival, creation of a solid tourism Policy, the Vibrant Cities campaign and a Marketing Nairobi initiative emphasizing that culture plays a pivotal role in the tourism and hospitality industry, influencing everything from the attractions and experiences sought by travelers to the way hospitality services are delivered.
He encouraged the graduands to take on leadership roles in the tourism and hospitality industry. He said, “leadership is about setting a vision, fostering a culture of excellence, and leading by example. It is about understanding the needs and desires of travelers and guests and exceeding their expectations with creativity and passion.”
