Nairobi County Executive for Innovation and Digital Economy, Mike Gumo, attended the Kenya Blockchain and Crypto Conference 2024 at the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA), Karen.

The Kenya Blockchain Crypto Conference (KBCC), whose theme this year was “Role of Blockchain in Shaping Africa’s Economic Landscape,” focuses on showcasing impactful blockchain innovations across Africa. It serves as a cornerstone event, uniting thought leaders, innovators, and stakeholders to delve into the latest trends, share insights, and promote collaboration in the ever-evolving blockchain and crypto landscape.

He emphasized that blockchain technology, with its transformative potential, stands at the forefront of this vision.
Blockchain 4“It is amazing how Blockchain has grown worldwide to provide immutable records of data at rest and data in transit,” said Mr. Gumo. “Nairobi, as a vibrant and dynamic city, has always been a pioneer in embracing technological advancements. The Nairobi County Government’s commitment to fostering a digital economy is evident through various initiatives aimed at creating a conducive environment for blockchain adoption.”

Mr. Gumo shared insights and perspective on Nairobi City County as a strategic partner in building a strong foundation for blockchain adoption not only in Kenya but the greater Africa region.

The approach includes; developing comprehensive regulatory frameworks that will provide clarity and security for blockchain and cryptocurrency ventures within Nairobi, engaging with private sector partners, tech hubs, and educational institutions to drive research, development, and implementation of blockchain solutions.  Investing in capacity building and education through TVET institutions to integrate blockchain technology into their curricula, equipping our youth with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the current digital driven economies, organizing workshops and seminars to raise awareness and build a knowledgeable community of blockchain enthusiasts and professionals among others.
Blockchain 5He further shared practical applications that have the potential to reshape the economic landscape such as ensuring data integrity, enhance security, and streamline processes which is beneficial for supply chain management, where blockchain can provide real-time tracking, reduce fraud, and increase efficiency. Blockchain can also provide a secure, immutable ledger for recording property transactions, ensuring transparency, and reducing conflicts, among others.
