Nairobi City County achieves a major milestone as the Markets and Trade Sub Sector finalizes the preliminary results and estimates for the County Aggregation Integration Parks (CAIP) project document. This document sets the pace for the establishment of the first Metal and Wood Industry in Africa, within the Mathare area.
The following documents are ready for verification by the various technical officers at the project site:-
- Structural designs
- Civil designs
- Identification and layout of machines, tools, and equipment
- Recreational park plans
- Business model
- Feasibility study report
- Environmental impact assessment
Speaking at a workshop in Mombasa, outgoing Trade and Markets Chief Officer Mr. Godfrey Akumali said Nairobi is among the 27 priority counties that the National Government has partnered with under CAIP to construct the Industrial Park at a cost of KES 1.45 billion.
“I will continue offering my unwavering support to the incoming Chief Officer and the CAIP team whenever called upon,” Akumali said, “to ensure the success of this project that will provide a ready market for standardized products, especially for the affordable housing project. This will translate to revenue creation, which is paramount in enabling the County to offer service delivery.”
Also speaking, the Chief Officer for Trade and Markets, Ms. Jane Wangui, said she would work hand-in-hand with all stakeholders to ensure they get all the facilitation they need to deliver the CAIP project in a sustainable manner and urged them to be meticulous in the conceptualization and the actualization of this noble project. She added that the CAIP will be a game changer to the communities around and, will contribute hugely to the Kenya economy and for posterity.
“The construction of the Industrial Park is in line with Governor Sakaja’s manifesto of creating job opportunities in an orderly and humane manner for the residents of Nairobi, especially the youth and women,” Wangui said. ” Iam glad to be part of a huge project like this bearing in mind the over 10,000 artisans within Nairobi County that will be empowered.
The Director for Trade and Industry Ms. Elizabeth Njau, thanked the Sakaja administration for its support and also thanked the stakeholders, which include the Strathmore Business School and the Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA), among others, for their collaboration in laying the foundation for the project’s success.
Attendees included: engineers from both the County and National Government, land surveyors, architects, quantity surveyors, and representatives from the national government, departmental heads, and others.
