Nairobi City County and Standard Chartered Bank have today launched an initiative to plant 150,000 trees in a bid to increase tree cover in the Capital City.
During the launch 600 tree seedlings were planted at Tree Side Special Primary and Secondary school, Kasarani Sub County. 1,900 more trees are set to be planted in Sieko and Murema primary schools.
Nairobi County Chief Officer, Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Ms. Gladwell Cheruiyot encouraged partnerships which will see more trees planted in Nairobi to avoid the effects of global warming and other hazards which may result if people do nothing to preserve the environment.
Ms. Cheruiyot also cautioned members of the public against cutting down trees without obtaining tree cutting permit from the County Government.
The Chief Officer applauded StanChart Bank and other stakeholders for their efforts towards urban greening.
Neema Gitau from StanChart Bank appreciated County Government of Nairobi for the support over the years.
The Chief Officer was accompanied by County Director Crops and Forestry Development Ms. Mary Kibira, Food and Agriculture and Kasarani Ward staff.
