Highway high school boys, and Dagoretti girls Under 18 Qualify for the finals of the Europe day Kenya football Tournament

The preliminaries of the Europe day Kenya took place in 4 Counties including Nairobi, others were Kilifi, Marsabit and Homabay. In Nairobi the 4th round of the preliminaries happened on 11th and 12th with 16 teams both girls and boys under 18 years participating in the event. H.E the Deputy Governor Njoroge Muchiri was Chief Guest at the event that was graced by H.E. Henriette Geiger European Union Ambassador among other dignitaries.

The 16 teams battled it up for two tickets to advance to the finals that will take place on 17th May 2024 at Ulinzi Sports Complex. Highway high school boys, Dagoretti girls taking lead in Nairobi preliminaries and will compete against finalist from Marsabit, Kilifi and Homabay that have produced 6 finalist.

The Deputy Governor said the idea by European Delegation is great and will help build character and competiveness. He said even as we commemorate this milestone, “we also extend these principles beyond Europe’s borders to embrace global partnerships and friendships. The winners of this tournament will have get a training camp in Romania fully sponsored by the European Union delegation, the rest of the winners will also not go home empty handed but will also get training Camps with Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards and gift bags” He said.

The Deputy Governor has pledged to Nairobians to show up in large numbers and cheer up team Nairobi during the finals on 17th, at Ulinzi Sports Complex.
Eurodayfinalist 5Chief Officer Youth Talent and Sports Oscar Igaida said, “The County is in talks with the European Delegation to make these an annual event. We want to nurture and build talent for these young ones that is why the County is holding several tournaments in the city. Notable ones being the Governor’s Cup, Talanta hela among others. The county is on the verge of identifying talent and nurturing it that is why we have come up with a programs where we scout for the best to join team Nairobi and give them an opportunity to grow. We also expect them to monetize these talents and earn a living through sports”.
Eurodayfinalist 16H.E Deputy Governor said this tournament was a fantastic display of sportsmanship and unity, showcasing the power of sport to bring communities together. “Through events like this, we strengthen bonds between Kenya and Europe, celebrating our common humanity and shared aspirations. He commended all the players, coaches, organizers, and supporters who made this tournament possible.”

He said Nairobi County reaffirms its commitment to cooperation and friendship across continents through such collaborations.
