Githurai Sports ground the training field for Githurai all-stars football team, winners of the Sakaja Cup has been year marked for construction of a modern stadium as one of the key initiatives by Nairobi City County Sports Sub Sector.
The Chief Officer, Youth, Talent and Sports Oscar Igaida while on a tour at the grounds to access the viability of the project said H.E Governor Sakaja in his manifesto has clearly stated the need to provide sporting facilities across the city, Mr. Igaida’s aim was to explore the possibility of building a stadium in Githurai sports ground. The construction of the stadium symbolizes Governor Sakaja’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all residents in the area and investing in the dreams and aspirations of our youth especially those talented in sports and those seeking to monetize their careers.
“Githurai all Stars winners of the Sakaja Cup are residents of this vibrant and dynamic part of Nairobi, and has long been a hub of energy and talent, a place where passion for sports runs deep, and where countless talented individuals strive to excel in athletics. However, lack of a proper stadium has often hindered the development of sporting talent and the promotion of healthy lifestyles among our youth.” Said Igaida
The Chief Officer said “this initiative by Governor Sakaja underscores our commitment to equitable development across Nairobi. Every corner of our city deserves access to quality facilities and opportunities. The construction of a stadium in Githurai will not only boost the local economy but also empower residents with a space to celebrate culture, talent, and achievement.”
Mr. Igaida said that such an undertaking requires careful planning, collaboration, and resources. “We will engage stakeholders, seek partnerships, and ensure transparency throughout this process. Together, we will navigate challenges and turn this vision into reality.”
The Chief Officer also visited Mwiki sports Complex and reported great progress with the basketball pitch and Volleyball pitch almost complete, and for the main pitch, the piping and compressing of the artificial turf is ongoing and will be completed in due course, He said the Mwiki social hall construction is at an advanced stage and the laying of the slab is underway, Mr. Igaida also checked on the progress of the Joe Kadenge stadium and said the construction had slowed down due to the ongoing heavy rains being experienced across the country but the progress was good.
The Chief Officer was accompanied by Director Sports Linet Boyani, Assistant Director Jack Wanyanga and Quantity Surveyor Mr. Oliver Munala
