Nairobi City County Explores Collaboration with Voluntary Service Overseas for Innovative Waste Management Solutions

Nairobi City County Environment department held an interactive engagement with Voluntary Service Oversees organization to look at areas of possible collaboration in waste management.

The meeting which was chaired by County Assistant Director, Environmental Monitoring Compliance and Enforcement Mr Lawrence Mwangi, discussed several issues key among them ‘From Waste to Work project’ whose objective is to strengthen green youth led  start -ups so that they can create decent jobs through waste recovery and  value addition.
Wastemngtsol” We are happy that the Voluntary Society Oversees organization is supporting the County in waste management. We are ready and willing to work together in managing waste in the City. Said  Mr. Mwangi.

Christine Kivuva, County Assistant Director for Environmental Monitoring Compliance and Enforcement said that it was important to mobilze the groups working on waste management and come up with a workplan to enable the success of the ‘From the Waste to work project’.
Wastemngtsol4Other areas deliberated for partnership were information sharing, development of a Memorandum of Understanding and Policy to guide on the project.

From Waste to Work project is currently ongoing in other cities of Mombasa and Kisumu.

The meeting was also attended by a representative from the County Attorney’s Office.
