NAIROBI: 26th February 2024
Nairobi City County’s Early Childhood Development and Education in conjunction with Action Foundation has launched a mobile application dubbed Somesha Stories mobile app, a platform that will revolutionize the way we engage with learners with disabilities.
Speaking at the launch, the Chief Officer for Early Childhood Education Development and Vocational Training Mr. Ahmed Abdi said” Today marks a monumental milestone in the world of storytelling and digital innovation. With the launch of Somesha Stories, we are taking storytelling to new heights by harnessing the capabilities of mobile technology to create an immerse and interactive experience for users in our learning institutions. This innovative app offers a diverse array of stories spanning genres, cultures, and perspectives, ensuring that learners with special needs are catered for.
Mr. Abdi said “In a world inundated with information and distractions, storytelling remains a timeless art form that has the unique ability to captivate our hearts and minds. Whether through the pages of a book, the screens of a movie theater, or the pixels of a digital device, stories have the power to transport us to different worlds, inspire us, and ignite our imagination.”
The Chief Officer further said, “What truly sets Somesha Stories apart is its commitment to community and inclusivity. Not only does the app provide a platform for established authors and storytellers to share their work, but it also empowers aspiring writers to showcase their talents and connect with audiences. Through features such as user-generated content, interactive storytelling experiences, and virtual book clubs, Somesha Stories fosters a sense of belonging and collaboration among storytellers and readers alike.
Furthermore, Somesha Stories is more than just a platform for entertainment; it is a catalyst for positive change. It gives an opportunity for all preprimary teachers to embrace learners with disabilities and thus actualize inclusive education in all our schools.
In the app, there are audio and video stories, each followed by activities for the learners. Above all, the app is free for all teachers and parents alike.
