Nairobi City County Executive Committee Member for Green Nairobi Mr. Ibrahim Auma today joined Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Board of Directors, company’s Managing Director, Staff and the local community in planting trees at the Sasumua Dam which contributes to about 12% of Nairobi’s water supply.
1000 trees were planted at the water catchment area located at Njabini, Nyandarua County.
“Nairobi County gives special attention to water catchment areas, as a way of preserving ecosystem and in return get enough supply of water in the Capital City”. Mr. Auma said.
The Green Nairobi boss added that trees not only attract rain but they help retain water in the ground providing resilience during dry seasons.
“By planting more trees along our water catchment areas, we are helping water flow, hence reducing risks of floods. Trees also help replenish our water sources and maintaining health water circle”. Added the CECM.
