Ward Development Funded projects by Nairobi City County Government Paves Way for development in Embakasi Central and Embakasi East Sub-Counties

Nairobi, 8th September 2025

The Nairobi City County Government is making visible strides in delivering people-driven development, with the successful completion of multiple Ward Development Projects (WDPs) under the Ward Development Programme across Embakasi Central and Embakasi East sub-counties. These projects are not only transforming neighborhoods but also aligning directly with H.E. Governor Johnson Sakaja’s manifesto pledge to take services and development closer to the people.

In Matopeni/Spring Valley Ward, residents are now enjoying improved mobility following the construction of several access roads, including Biashara Street, Hadasa Road, Jilma Road, Matopeni, and Esvak Road, covering a combined 0.40km. In addition, the county, through the ward development, the County has procured a contractor for construction of Kirunga and Malaysia Roads, which adds a further 0.55km of enhanced connectivity in Matopeni/spring valley ward.

These roads are easing congestion, improving accessibility, and opening up the ward to fresh business opportunities, giving residents and traders the much-needed infrastructure to thrive.

Education has not been left behind. Pupils at Bondeni Primary School in Kayole Central Ward now enjoy a modern Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) block. The facility provides a conducive environment for young learners, demonstrating the County’s resolve to invest in early childhood education as part of building a better future.

In Kayole South, community spaces have been prioritized with the construction of Kayole II Social Hall, as well as a modern resource center. Together, these developments are creating safer and more vibrant social and innovative hubs for residents.

The push for inclusive development is further evident in Lower Savannah Ward, where Musasa Muoroto Road (0.45km) has been constructed alongside the rehabilitation of Social Hall Galili Road (0.40km).

In Kayole North, residents now benefit from the construction of Mihang’o stage feeder roads spanning 0.50km, significantly improving last-mile connectivity within the ward.

WDP CEO, Eng. Eston Kimathi lauded the progress, emphasizing accountability and responsiveness in project delivery. “Our mandate is to ensure that Nairobians get value for every shilling allocated to Ward Development Projects. The successful completion of these projects, together with others that WDP is overseeing to ensure quality is maintained, shows that when residents prioritize projects, the county delivers. We are committed to accelerating similar works across all wards so that no community is left behind.”

Deputy Director WDP, Margaret Kimani, who toured the projects to assess their status, commended the impact being felt by communities. “Walking through these neighborhoods, you can clearly see how these projects are changing lives. Roads are making transport easier, schools are better equipped, and social spaces are being revived. This is exactly what WDP was designed to do, turn community priorities into real, tangible outcomes.”

These developments tie directly into H.E. Governor Sakaja’s manifesto, which prioritizes inclusive development, investment in infrastructure, and improved social services at the ward level.

H.E. Governor Sakaja has consistently emphasized that every Nairobi resident should feel the impact of devolved funds through projects that matter most to them. With these completed projects, among others, Nairobi County is proving that development is no longer a promise but a lived reality for Nairobians, anchoring progress on transparency, accountability, and community involvement.
