Public Participation on Trade/Industrialization & Market Bill 2019

Nairobi,28th October 2019.

Nairobi City County Commerce,Tourism and Cooperatives Sector today held a stakeholders forum in a City Hotel, to deliberate on the development of Nairobi City County Trade/Industrialization & Market Bill 2019.

The County Chief Officer Education,Gender and Social Services who is also the Ag.Chief Officer Commerce, Tourism and Cooperatives Dr. Jairus Musumba called on all the stakeholders to give their views and suggestions in order to make the bill which is in it’s initial stages better.

The Trade Bill seeks to establish laws to regulate the growth of the trade in the County, promote industrial development in the County,promote growth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises on trade and industry, Establishment of a revolving fund to Finance Micro and Small Enterprises (SMEs) among other issues.

The Markets Bill objective is to promote and enhance growth and development of wholesale and retail trade,ensure efficiency and effectiveness on operation of the markets,promote and ensure inclusiveness and participation of wholesale and retail traders in the governance and management of the markets and enhance sustainability of operations.

The stakeholders were drawn from State department of Trade,Kenya National Chambers of Commerce Institute,Kenya Law Reforms Commission,Kenya Association of hawkers and other Trade agencies.

Other County officers in attendance were the Chief Officer Youth and Sports,Directors;Trade and Industrialization,Cooperatives,Tourism,Devolution,Markets, Licensing and other Sector staffs.
