Nairobi’s vision for Sustainable Mobility Shines at International Transport Summit 2025- Moscow

Mr. Ibrahim Auma, the County Executive Committee Member for Mobility and Works, made a remarkable presentation on Nairobi’s journey towards sustainable urban mobility, during the International Transport Summit 2025 in Moscow, Russia. The summit brought together Urban leaders, innovators and mobility experts from across the globe, all committed to shaping the future of transport in cities.

“Cities across the world are grappling with the realities of urban mobility such as congestion, reliance on informal transport systems, pedestrian safety and rising transport related emissions. These are not challenges unique to one city or region, they are shared experiences that require shared thinking and collaborative responses.” Observed Mr. Auma.
Moscow 9To address such challenges, Mr. Auma shared how Nairobi County is taking bold steps to transform its mobility landscape by:-Advancing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system to ease congestion and improve public transport efficiency. Modernizing the commuter rail to boost connectivity and reduce travel time.

Promoting electric mobility in line with the City and National government’s climate commitments-supporting the adoption of clean, sustainable transport technologies.

He assured that Nairobi remains committed to advancing transport systems that are modern, inclusive and resilient. “For Nairobi, participating in this global dialogue is more than symbolic, it underscores our commitment to becoming a modern city known for inclusive green transport solutions. We are not only implementing practical interventions but also contributing to the global conversation about how cities can thrive amid rapid urbanization and climate change.” He said.
Moscow 7served as a platform for cities from across the world to exchange knowledge and explore solutions around: – global collaboration on shared mobility challenges, innovative solutions through new technologies and infrastructure and sustainable mobility that puts people and the planet first. ” This is a proud and defining moment for Nairobi to share our progress, draw inspiration from global peers, and affirm our place in collective effort to reimagine mobility for future generations,”  added the Mobility and Works County Executive Member.
Moscow 5valuable contributions during the summit were: – Mr. Charles Kerich, the County Executive Committee Member for Finance and Economic Planning, Mr. Kefa Omanga, Director Donor Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement, Eng. Moses Kuiyaki, Director of Transport and Mr. Justin Muli from Governor’s Office who actively engaged in various discussions on exploring solutions geared towards shaping inclusive and resilient transport systems for cities.Ends/..
