Nairobi shines at Best African City Awards and secures second place overall

Nairobi clinched 2nd place at The Best African City Awards, held during the 2nd edition of the Africa Smart Cities Investment Summit at the Radisson Blu Hotel, honored 36 cities across the continent for their outstanding achievements in key developmental pillars. The rankings were based on four critical areas:

  • Smart Governance and Strategy
  • Smart Economy and Innovation
  • Smart Mobility and Access
  • Smart Living and Well-being

Nairobi stood out as a trailblazer, clinching the second position overall, just behind Johannesburg, South Africa.
Bestcity 2The award was received by the County Executive for Innovation, Digital Economy (IDE), Mike Gumo, and County Chief Officer for Smart Nairobi, Wilson Gakuya.

Mr. Gumo lauded the leadership of Nairobi Governor H.E. Johnson Sakaja, whose commitment to transformative governance and innovation continues to elevate Nairobi’s global profile.

Chief Officer Gakuya expressed optimism about Nairobi’s trajectory, noting that the city’s progress is rooted in deliberate efforts to embrace technology, foster innovation, and improve the quality of life for its residents.

This recognition underscores Nairobi’s growing reputation as a leader in smart city initiatives, reaffirming its position as a key player in Africa’s urban development.
