Nairobi, 25th July 2024
Nairobi County Chief Officer for Revenue Administration, Wilson Gakuya, along with Nairobi Revenue Authority Ag. CEO and Director for Revenue Administration, Dr. John Ntoiti held a revenue meeting with Sub County Finance officers and heads of revenue streams at the CBK Nairobi Pension Towers. The meeting aimed to discuss the county’s revenue performance for July 2024 and other revenue administration matters.
Mr. Gakuya emphasized the importance of evaluating previous performance practices by having frequent meetings to tackle bottlenecks effectively in revenue streams. “This approach allows us to engage more deeply and hold accountable those responsible in key operations. By identifying specific areas needing improvement and those that have been successfully addressed, it ensures clarity on performance expectations and achievements,” he said.
The Chief Officer stressed his commitment to addressing key issues and ensuring smooth transitions, coordinating efforts to tackle revenue matters effectively.
In the month of July 2024, the county has collected over Kshs 500M, with expectations of additional collections by the end of the month. Despite the revenue collection performance decline due to demonstrations, Mr. Gakuya encouraged the staff to enhance their efforts to increase revenue performance.
“The frequent revenue meetings we normally hold enable meaningful discussions and accountability in each area of operation. Continuous meetings and actionable tasks are essential for improving performance,” Mr. Gakuya stated. He also addressed absenteeism, emphasizing the need for a staff attendance register and adherence to work ethics. Rationalization of staff distribution across workstations, especially due to the gap left by retiring officers, was also highlighted.
Dr. Ntoiti reviewed the revenue figures for each stream for the month of July 2024 and opened the floor to discussions on ways to improve revenue performance.
Officers present were taken through a presentation on cross-cutting issues such as alcohol and drug abuse, gender mainstreaming, HIV and AIDS at the workplace, and national cohesion. “These issues are foundational elements within our performance contract,” said Dr. Ntoiti.
