NAIROBI, Kenya – January 28th January, 2026
Nairobi City County has joined forces with the Wildlife Clubs of Kenya (WCK) to launch the 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, a bold roadmap designed to transform millions of learners into frontline climate warriors.
The strategy, unveiled at WCK’s Lang’ata Headquarters, shifts the organization’s 58-year legacy from traditional wildlife education toward active climate resilience. The plan integrates the Climate Change Act 2016 and UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) directly into the curriculum of every primary and secondary school in the country.
Nairobi City County leadership emphasized the local impact of the plan. Ms. Rosemary Kariuki, County Executive, Inclusivity & Public Participation noted the importance of community-led conservation. “True climate action begins with inclusivity. By empowering our youth through the WCK framework, we are ensuring that every ward in Nairobi participates in reclaiming our status as the ‘Green City in the Sun’. This is about grassroots mobilization for a sustainable future,” she stated.
“This strategy ensures our youth are the environmental custodians of today, not just the leaders of tomorrow,” declared Ms. Sylvia Museiya, Principal Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife.
Ms. Zipporah Mwangi, Chief Officer, City Culture, Arts and Tourism added that the “green skills” WCK is now imparting are essential for the city’s long-term environmental and tourism goals.
WCK Strategic Plan 2030 Highlights include:
– Green Economy Training by preparing youth for careers in sustainable tourism.
– Reforestation Hubs by ensuring the modernization of school clubs leading local carbon-offsetting projects.
– Digital Conservation using tech to engage the “TikTok generation” in biodiversity tracking.
– Policy Inclusion by securing a seat for youth in national climate decision-making.
Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo was also in attendance and called for a massive scale-up of environmental literacy at the grassroots level to support national climate targets.
