San Francisco, USA — October 2025:
Nairobi City has made a landmark move as one of six global cities admitted into the inaugural cohort of the Pioneering Places Davos Baukultur Alliance, a prestigious global platform advancing sustainable and inclusive urban transformation.
The announcement was made during the ongoing Davos Baukultur Alliance Summit in San Francisco, California — a landmark event made possible through a collaboration between the World Economic Forum (WEF) and KPMG. The summit convened global leaders and visionaries driving urban innovation and resilience across continents.
Nairobi joins Kuala Lumpur, Medellín, San Francisco, and Utrecht in the inaugural cohort recognized for pioneering collaboration models that achieve transformative and sustainable urban growth.
The city’s recognition underscores the growing international confidence in Governor Johnson Sakaja’s visionary leadership, anchored on the pillars of Order, Dignity, Hope, and Opportunity.
This milestone comes hot on the heels of an active infrastructure project structuring collaboration initiative between the Office of the Governor and KPMG East Africa, aimed at unlocking new investment models to accelerate Nairobi’s infrastructure and service delivery.
Representing Nairobi at the summit was H.E. Njoroge Muchiri, Deputy Governor, who featured among the keynote speakers. Accompanying the Deputy Governor was Mr. Kefa Omanga Omoi, Director of Donor Coordination, in the Office of the Governor.
As part of the Alliance, Nairobi is now expected to translate the global Baukultur principles into actionable local development strategies, drawing from international best practices in urban planning, governance, and sustainability. Through this collaboration, the city will benefit from technical support, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building from global partners driving the future of urban transformation.
“This milestone reaffirms Nairobi’s position as a city of innovation and resilience—a true pioneer in building inclusive and sustainable urban spaces,” said Deputy Governor Njoroge Muchiri during his address at the summit.
With this historic admission, Nairobi cements its position as Africa’s rising capital of urban innovation, shaping a resilient and dignified future for its residents and the continent at large.
