Digital Economy and Startups Sub sector staff convened for a strategic session led by In coming Chief Officer, Mr. Wilson Gakuya. The meeting served as a platform to chart a decisive roadmap for 2026.
Mr. Gakuya positioned Nairobi as the innovation heartbeat of the region, reaffirming commitment to the Governor’s vision of a city built on order, dignity, hope, and opportunity. He emphasized that technology must function as a bridge linking citizens to critical services, connecting ideas to markets, and opening pathways for youth talent across all wards.
He highlighted the resilience and ingenuity that define Nairobi’s startup community, noting the county’s plans to scale targeted programmes, strengthen incubation pipelines, and expand hackathons that nurture homegrown solutions. He underscored a leadership approach rooted in collaboration, transparency, and measurable impact, assuring the team that their ideas and growth remain central to his mandate.
The Chief Officer reaffirmed that the sub sectors mission extends beyond system-building. “We are creating opportunities and shaping the future of this city,” he said, calling for unity and purpose as Nairobi accelerates its digital transformation agenda.
County Director, Digital Economy and Startups, Elizabeth Ndungu, echoed the optimism and commended the team for their hard work throughout the year from policy development, youth digital skills training, stakeholder engagement startup support and new innovation programmes, crediting these achievements to teamwork and commitment.
She encouraged staff to embrace the leadership transition as an opportunity to strengthen systems, deepen collaboration, and remain aligned with the county’s ambition of positioning Nairobi as Africa’s leading startup and innovation hub. “With renewed energy and purpose, we can take this directorate to even greater heights,” she said.
As the meeting came to a close, the team aligned on priorities for the coming year reflecting on progress made while setting the tone for a dynamic year ahead. The session reinforced a shared commitment to empower youth, support startups, and build a robust digital economy that works for all Nairobi residents.
