Nairobi County Ward Climate Change Planning Committees Undergo Crucial Training on the Sidelines of UNEA 6 for Effective Implementation of Climate Change Actions

On the sidelines of the ongoing United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA 6), Nairobi County Ward Climate Change Planning Committees(WCCPC) comprising members from different sectors are undergoing a three-day training at a Nairobi Hotel, to enable them understand their role in Climate Change matters.
Wccpc2The training has been organized by Nairobi City County Government in collaboration with the Adaptation Consortium (ADA), who are assisting county governments in training core teams of trainers to effectively build their capacity.

“In order to effectively perform their mandates, the committee members require capacity building and provision of necessary tools. WCCPCs are required to be champions in their sectors so as to mainstream and integrate Climate Actions in all county sectors.” Said Ms. Grace Ojiayo, Assistant Director Climate Change and Air Quality, Nairobi County.
Wccpc7Nairobi City County Climate Change Bill is currently awaiting adoption by the County Assembly. The bill establishes three committees; The Steering Committee, the Climate Change Planning Committee and the Ward Climate Change Committee, with each committee having its specific roles in implementing Climate Change Actions that cater to the unique needs of the communities.

The meeting is also attended by the Climate Change and Air Quality Monitoring Unit staff.
