NAIROBI COUNTY VETERINARY DEPARTMENT VACCINATES DOGS IN NAIROBI CITY.

This past Friday, saw the Nairobi County Directorate of Veterinary Services vaccinate 165 cats and dogs in a free mass vaccination exercise against rabies.

Nairobi City County veterinary services department set up four centres in:-

Uhuru (next to Uhuru Secondary School), Mbotela (behind Chief’s office), Maringo Shopping Centre and Harambee Chief’s Camp.

The one-day exercise was spearheaded by the Acting Director of Veterinary services Dr. Daniel Karugu.

Said Dr.Karugu “The vaccination exercise is a routine process which will be conducted in all the 17 sub-counties in Nairobi. Nairobi County will release the schedule for upcoming areas in the coming days. I would like to call upon members of public who rear dogs and cats to present them for the vaccination drive as this is for the well-being of the animals and the safety of area residents.

Below is how the respective centres fared during the exercise.

  • Uhuru High – 71
  • Harambee Chief’s – 38
  • Mbotela – 32
  • Maringo – 24

TOTAL = 165

Dr. Karugu also said that Six (6) dogs that had a history of attacking area residents were seized.
