Nairobi City County Governor H.E Sakaja Arthur Johnson in the company of his Deputy H.E Njoroge Muchiri, today graced a handing over ceremony for the establishment of the physical address system for Nairobi City County at City Hall Annex -Nairobi.
The objective of the physical address system is to appraise the National and County Government and core service providers on how each entity can integrate their respective data to that of the new addressing system which is under implementation across the entire Nairobi City County.
This involves naming of streets and numbering of properties along each respective street. It comprises of a numerical property identifier or the property number, followed by a combined street identifier which is the street name and /or a code that the property ‘s main access is located.
The establishment was funded by the World Bank through the State Department of Housing and Urban planning. It is in line with the National Digital Registry Service initiative dubbed “Umoja Kenya” under land registry.
Some of the project’s benefit will include; having a fully established, equipped and secured in-house data Centre offering interdepartmental data sharing at reduced levels of cost and complexity to date county wide physical address maps and GIS data sets; increased competitiveness of Nairobi city as a business and tourist destination raised profile of Nairobi City County-the capital city in competitiveness and liveability, to mention but a few.
H.E The Governor commended the team that was tasked with the responsibility, led by the County Executive Committee Member for Built Environment and Urban Planning Mr.Stephen .G. Mwangi.
The Governor further called for immediate integration of the system and Capacity building for County staff to be able to utilize, manage and sustain the established property address system.
Also present was County Executive Committee Member -Inclusivity, Public Participation and Customer Service Ms. Suzanne Silantoi ,County Chief Officer incharge of Urban planning and Development – Mr. Patrick Analo, and a host of other County Chief Officers, Governor’s Advisor Urban and Regional planning -Mr. James Maina plus representatives from the State Department of Housing and Urban Planning.
The project was done by Urban Regional and Environmental Planners International Limited (UREPI LTD).
